On December 27, 2023, the Huangshan-Nanchang section of the Hangzhou-Nanchang High Speed Railway was completed and opened, marking a significant milestone in the development of high speed railways in the Yangtze River Delta as the operational mileage of rail lines surpassed 7,000 kilometers.

The integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta is a major national strategy personally planned, deployed, and promoted by President Xi Jinping. In recent years, the railway sector has accelerated the construction of a modern and interconnected high speed railway network, striving to create a higher-quality railway network in the Yangtze River Delta. Annual infrastructure investment in Yangtze River Delta railways has been maintained at over 80 billion yuan, with the completion and operation of multiple high speed rail lines such as the Shanghai-Nantong Railway, Lianyungang-Zhenjiang High Speed Railway, and Huzhou-Hangzhou High Speed Railway, as well as various normal-speed railways including the Quzhou-Ningde Railway. Additionally, modern passenger stations like Hangzhouxi Railway Station and logistics bases like Yaohuamen have been constructed.

CR-Shanghai adheres to the principles of carrying out service-oriented construction and starting operations at the beginning of construction, emphasizing early involvement in railway construction, process management, and quality and safety control, to build remarkable projects. Notably, the construction of the Yangtze River Bridge of the Shanghai-Nantong Railway achieved five “worlds firsts” in design and construction technology. The Lianyungang-Zhenjiang High Speed Railway’s Wufengshan Yangtze River Bridge, as the world’s first high speed suspension bridge, set seven world records. The TOD project at Hangzhouxi Railway Station, inaugurated on September 22, 2022, is a comprehensive transportation hub integrating railways, rail transit, and long-distance passenger transportation. It also serves as a commercial complex that brings together various formats such as business, office, leisure, hotel, and exhibitions, setting a new benchmark for the integration of railway construction and urban development.

Emphasizing “network integration,” the railway sector focuses on connectivity, network supplementation, and strengthening linkages. In addition to high speed railway construction, efforts are actively directed toward supporting local-led intercity and urban railway construction and connection, focusing on interconnection, efficiency, and convenience. In the construction process of Shanghaidong Railway Station, they implement the requirements of integration in planning and construction, operation management, and the integration of the station and urban area. They strive to create a new benchmark for an international and open gateway hub in the new era.

According to the “Outline of Regional Integrated Development Plan for the Yangtze River Delta,” by 2025, the railway network density in the Yangtze River Delta will reach 507 kilometers per 10,000 square kilometers.
