According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, on January 23, at 2:09 AM, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake occurred in Wushi County, Aksu Region, Xinjiang (41.26°N, 78.63°E), with a depth of 22 kilometers. Following the earthquake, CR-Urumqi rapidly and effectively responded, making every effort to ensure the safety, stability, and orderliness of railway transportation.

The earthquake was strongly felt in various parts of Xinjiang. After the earthquake, CR-Urumqi swiftly initiated the earthquake emergency response plan. Dispatchers implemented emergency rescue plans, sealed off the affected sections of the railway line, immediately halted passenger and freight trains operating in the earthquake-affected areas, and worked diligently on emergency rescue efforts to minimize the impact of the earthquake on railway transportation order. Simultaneously, CR-Urumqi organized personnel from various departments, including track maintenance, electrification, and power supply, to inspect the safety of railway lines, bridges, tunnels, signals, and other equipment in the earthquake-affected areas, using methods such as additional railcar inspections and walking patrols. They closely monitored aftershocks and secondary disasters, eliminated safety hazards in the affected sections, and made every effort to ensure the good condition of the equipment.

Furthermore, all stations within CR-Urumqi promptly disseminated information about train suspensions and delays through station screens, train broadcasts, official Weibo accounts, and other platforms. They organized personnel to provide passenger reassurance and handle ticket refunds. Due to the earthquake’s impact, some trains experienced varying degrees of delays. Train staff intensified on-board inspections, ensured adequate food and beverage supplies, actively comforted passengers, and provided warm services to ensure passenger well-being.
