On January 16, at 16:54, a CRE train loaded with daily necessities, textile fabrics, and machinery equipment departed from the Horgos Port to Ma?aszewicze, Poland. This marked the cumulative passage of over 70,000 trains on the CRE train westbound route, with 36,622 trains passing through the Alataw Pass and 33,403 trains through the Horgos Port.

In recent years, the railway authority has fully implemented the party’s strategy for governing Xinjiang in the new era, focusing on improving the quality of CRE train operations. It better serves the construction of the core area of the “Belt and Road” Initiative (BRI), achieving a stable growth in the passage of CRE trains on the westbound route at two border ports, accounting for more than 50% of the total in the country. This has provided strong support for helping Xinjiang become a new frontier for China’s opening to the west and promoting high-quality economic and social development in the region.

Focusing on key aspects such as ensuring train sources, marshalling operations, and document handovers, CR-Urumqi has maintained close communication and contact with the Kazakhstani railway authority. They have organized on-site inspections, negotiated on matters such as the annual transportation plan, infrastructure construction, and unloading of goods, ensuring smooth transportation at the ports. Additionally, they continue to optimize the organization and process of CRE train transportation, rationally arrange the schedule of CRE trains, and prepare a timetable for the entire journey to ensure the punctual and efficient operation of the trains. They have coordinated multiple authorities to implement measures such as digital ports and fast-track railway services to improve the efficiency of port passage and inspection.

As the high-quality construction of the BRI deepens, demand for cross-border trade is growing. Since 2020, the Alataw Pass and Horgos Port have accelerated the implementation of capacity expansion projects. On November 16, 2023, the second-line construction project of the Lanzhou-Xinjiang Railway from Jinghe to Alataw Pass was put into operation, providing solid support for the steady growth of port throughput.

As of now, the Alataw Pass has 115 operating routes for the CRE train, reaching 25 countries and regions; the Horgos Port has 80 operating routes, radiating to 18 overseas countries, reaching 45 cities and regions, making the route the “golden channel” for international land transportation logistics.
